2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Lolonis Vineyard

2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Lolonis Vineyard

$34.00

Our inaugural single vineyard Lolonis Sauvignon Blanc is an expression of superb old vines farmed with love and attention. The nose shows austere white peach, hay and subtle oak notes. The palate, though not weighty, is uncommonly well structured, with snappy acid and great length. It drinks well now, but we recommend stashing a couple bottles to drink over the next 10 years..

This is made from some of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vines in the country, planted in 1942 – never irrigated and always organically farmed. The clonal material hails from the finest chateau in Sauternes. The grapes were harvested on September 9, 2019.

The grapes were hand-picked, whole-cluster pressed, and barrel fermented with in 2nd and 3rd use French Oak. The juice remained on the lees, with batonnage twice weekly until bottled on June 25, 2020.

The old vines provide a bright and linear expression reminiscent of oyster shells and citrus zest. Lees aging in older French oak barrels lend a refined texture that will enable the wine to develop complexity over time. This wine will pair nicely with spring mix salads, asparagus and shrimp risotto, or even a piece of your favorite aged goat cheese.
